Barcoded Magnetic Beads

Barcoded magnetic beads offer a digital multiplexing solution for syndromic detection of infectious agents. No wider than the diameter of a strand of human hair, barcoded magnetic beads are fabricated by a biocompatible polymer and paramagnetic material composite. They allow for a broad range of bioassay applications.

Functionalized BMBs

Applied BioCode offers four different types of BMBs*. Each type of “microchips” contains one of 4,096 unique digital barcodes. The barcodes can be easily read with stationary bright field imaging. The four types include:

  • Carboxyl: With carboxyl beads, amino-modified oligonucleotides (probes or primers), or amino groups of peptides or proteins (antibodies or antigens) can be covalently linked to the surface of BMBs.
  • P-Carboxyl: With P-Carboxyl beads, peptides or proteins can be covalently linked to the surface of BMBs through amino groups.
  • Amino: While carboxyl and P-Carboxyl beads allow proteins to bind to the surface through amino groups, amino beads allow peptides or proteins to bind covalently through carboxyl groups.
  • Streptavidin: Streptavidin beads allow flexible immobilization chemistry for rapid assay development. They are designed for high affinity capture of biotinylated molecules.
